Breast Augmentation with Implants in Plano, TX

What is Breast Augmentation with Implants?

Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most common and popular cosmetic procedures in the United States. Many women desire larger, more youthful breasts. Plano, TX plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Caruth's goal is to achieve the most natural-looking breast appearance possible. Breast implants may be either silicone or saline, and vary in shape, size, and texture. They are added to the natural tissue of the breasts in order to achieve a fuller look and better shape. During your initial consultation, our staff will discuss the different breast implants and incision options with you to determine how to best meet — or even exceed — your aesthetic goals.

How Is Breast Implant Surgery Performed?

Incision type, as well as implant placement, are factors that are generally made ahead of surgery. After a small incision is made, the silicone or saline implant will be placed through the incision and deposited into a surgically created pocket and then fitted into its correct position. Once the implant is in position, the incision is carefully secured with sutures. There are a variety of methods that may be applied for implant placement. These are either under the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue but over the pectoral muscle. Where to place the implant is based on several factors, including the type and degree of implant enlargement. Regardless of the incision type, scarring is usually minimal.

I had an awake breast augmentation a year ago and I am very pleased with the results.  Dr. Caruth and his staff were very pleasant and professional.  I have also had some Botox here and he was very honest to give me only what I needed.   I definitely will be back.  Just wanted to share my experience.

patient - The times I have been to Dr. Caruth's office, the wait was never more than 10 minutes. I had breast augmentation. He was very professional, explained the procedure and asked if I had questions. On the day of the surgery, Dr. Caruth and his staff were very prompt, explained everything in detail and ask me periodically if I was ok. I went back several times for check ups to make sure everything was healing properly. I have recently had another minor procedure which Dr. Caruth preformed. Everything went well.

Dr. Caruth is the most patient doctor I've ever seen. I went in for two consults before finally doing breast augmentation surgery. I don't know why I waited so long. The awake surgery is definitely the way to go. That way you know what you are getting. It's a little uncomfortable, but those very few minutes of discomfort definitely outweigh the risks of anesthesia, being sick after, and the potential of not getting what you really want. It's hard to decide what size you want without knowing how much your body can comfortably accommodate. I thought i wanted slightly larger implants than I got, but had I been asleep for the procedure and the doctor put the 550 cc implants in that I selected during the fitting, I would have woke up in agony. I would have then been one of those women with a horrible experience to tell about, as I'm sure the pain would have lasted a good 4-5 days until the skin stretched a little and the swelling went down. I'm convinced the people who have those horrible experiences either had a doctor who was very rough while she was asleep, or they were trying to go with a larger implant than their body could comfortably accommodate on the first surgery. If you go with Dr. Caruth and his awake procedure, I'm sure neither of the above things could happen. He is very careful and since you are awake, he only fills you to your comfort level. And, you'll know when it's too much. You aren't so numb that you can't feel pressure. I went from a small C cup to a DD with just 450 cc's. We tried 500 and it just stretched me out so much it was painful. So, we backed it down and I'm thrilled with the results. If I decide to go bigger in the future, I certainly won't hesitate to go back in again. But, ladies, plan this in the winter months so you won't miss any bikini time because you can't swim or water ski for several weeks after. Not because of the pain, but because you need that time to heal properly. I really didn't have more than a day and a half of what I would call down time. And, the only reason I would call it down time is because I was on hydrocodone and probably wouldn't have been able to focus had I gone to work. I had my procedure on a Friday morning, took it easy Friday night (but not crashed. Still up and functioning.) Slept good Friday night on hydrocodone. Some soreness and one small black and blue mark in the morning. Had my follow up appointment on Saturday morning, which Dr. Caruth was kind enough to come in for because he wants to see everyone the day after surgery just to be sure everything is progressing ok and you don't have any questions. I stayed in Saturday night but was up and around and enjoying the good meds. Tylenol Sunday and Monday and feeling almost normal. Could have gone into my office, but just worked from home. Just a little tenderness. I also can't say enough about how friendly and knowledgeable all the girls in the office are. From the time you first walk in the door, you are treated like family. Dr. Caruth has well-trained, professional staff members who are friendly and very knowledgeable in their respective jobs. And, they all obviously care very much about each patients care and comfort.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation with Implants?

Prospective patients for breast implant surgery should be physically healthy with fully developed breasts. If you are dissatisfied with the shape of your chest because they appear lifeless, you may benefit from this aesthetic breast treatment. Moreover, if your breasts have been affected by aging, nursing, or weight loss, this treatment can give them life with increased volume. Some individuals with these concerns may also require a breast lift.  Breast implants may be a welcome solution if you weight train or have little to no natural breast mass.

Do I need a breast lift or augmentation?

Your treatment plan may include breast augmentation, a lift, or both. A breast lift removes excess skin and raises the breasts, while augmentation addresses the shape and size. During your consultation with Dr. Caruth, he will listen to your needs and goals before discussing your treatment options. A combination augmentation and lift are usually a part of a mommy makeover to rejuvenate the breasts after breastfeeding and pregnancy.

Can I breastfeed with implants?

If you might want to breastfeed after augmentation surgery, be sure to tell Dr. Caruth during your consultation. It is usually possible to breastfeed after implants, with the right placement and technique. However, pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect your results, so it is best to wait until your family is complete to have breast augmentation.

Can I have my implants removed?

You may decide that you want to replace or remove your implants. If this happens, Dr. Caruth offers breast revision surgery. During the revision surgery, your current implants can either be replaced with different implants or simply removed. If you want to have your implants removed, you may need to have a breast lift because larger implants may stretch your skin. For any concerns or questions after your breast augmentation surgery, schedule a consultation at Beyond Beautiful Cosmetic Surgery to discuss your options.

What is Awake Breast Augmentation?

At Beyond Beautiful Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Caruth offers awake breast augmentation, which uses local anesthesia instead of general. Awake breast augmentation allows for a comfortable procedure without the patient being in an unconscious state. This can allow for the same optimal results without the risks and downtime associated with general anesthesia.

How do I know if awake breast augmentation is right for me?

During a thorough consultation at our facility, Dr. Caruth will evaluate your aesthetic goals, medical history, and current health to determine if you may be an ideal candidate for awake breast augmentation or a traditional breast augmentation procedure. In some cases, a patient may desire an awake procedure in order to experience a quicker recovery with fewer associated risks.

What sedation method is used during awake breast augmentation?

For an awake breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Caruth will utilize tumescent anesthesia. This includes lidocaine, an anesthetic, and epinephrine to help control bleeding. Patients should experience no sensation during their procedure, allowing for optimal comfort.

What Results Can I Expect from Breast Implants?

All activities must be limited within 48 hours after surgery. There will be bruising and swelling, and a compression support bra will also be worn to help in healing. It is normal to feel tightness around the chest area as the skin adjusts to the breast’s new shape. Most patients may resume normal activities within seven days. However, exercise should be avoided for at least 4 – 6 weeks. It takes at least six months for the breasts to look, feel, and function normally in regards to softness, sensation, and final placement.
