How Is Gynecomastia Treatment Performed?
This surgery is performed using either intravenous (IV) sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Caruth will recommend the best form of sedation for you. In cases where gynecomastia is primarily the result of excess fatty tissue, the liposuction technique may be used. This technique involves the insertion of a cannula, a thin hollow tube, through several small incisions. The cannula is moved back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen excess fat, which is then removed from the body by vacuum suction. Another commonly used technique is the excision technique, which can be recommended in the event that glandular breast tissue or excess skin must be removed to reduce gynecomastia. Excision could also be necessary in the event that the client desires a reduction of the areola or repositioning of the nipple in order to attain a more natural male contour. Sometimes, gynecomastia reduction is achieved using a combination of both liposuction and excision.
