What is a Breast Lift?

Mastopexy (known as a breast lift) is a body contouring procedure that redefines the breasts by reducing loose skin and tightening the healthy tissue to create a more youthful and healthier look. This body reshaping surgery is reserved for women who have lost breast shape and volume and who are experiencing breast drooping due to weight loss, pregnancy, or aging. Dr. Jeffrey Caruth in Plano, TX offers this procedure at Beyond Beautiful. By incorporating different methods, Dr. Jeffrey Caruth can choose the correct technique, depending on the level of sag present in addition to the desired result.

A vampire breast lift (VBL) augments your breasts without surgery. Dr. Vu Ho at Beyond Beautiful injects platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to improve skin texture and make your breasts appear fuller. Side effects are minimal, but may include bruising, swelling and tenderness, and there’s no downtime. Long-term complications and effectiveness of PRP breast lifts aren’t known

WHAT IS A VAMPIRE BREAST LIFT?

A vampire breast lift (VBL) is a procedure to improve (augment) the look of your breasts if surgery isn’t yet warranted. VBL uses injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This procedure is also known as a PRP breast lift.

WHAT IS PLATLET-RICH-PLASMA (PRP)?

Platelet-rich plasma comes from your blood. PRP contains proteins that promote blood clotting and help with cell growth.

Providers separate PRP from the rest of your blood in a centrifuge, a machine that spins your blood at high speeds. The centrifuge separates your blood into three components:

  • Platelet-rich plasma
  • White blood cells
  • Red blood cells

Am I An Ideal Candidate for a Breast LIft?

You may visit Beyond Beautiful hoping to get breast augmentation using implants, but after a private assessment, you may discover that breast lift surgery may be an option alone or with implants. This is dependent on the level of sagging that is shown and nipple position. Breasts that have lost elasticity usually need a lift to reduce skin looseness and bring the breasts to a higher position. If you have nipples that droop downward and your breasts appear stretched, a surgical lift can dramatically help their appearance. If you are contemplating a breast lift, you need to be in good health and at a healthy weight.

The Breast Lift Surgical Technique

Breast lift surgery takes approximately 2 – 4 hours and is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia. The timeframe of this procedure depends on the complexity of breast ptosis. The method used for a breast lift generally falls under two categories — the technique is defined by the type of the incision. The anchor technique (inverted-T) and the vertical incisions are the most used methods.  Any loose, unhealthy skin is removed along with breast tissue and fat that is not desired. The skin is then tightened and the breasts are positioned higher and lifted so they appear healthy and younger. In most situations, the size and shape of the areola is reduced to match the new placement and shape of the breast.  An implant can be inserted during this procedure if this was agreed upon with Dr. Jeffrey Caruth ahead of surgery. If a breast lift is the only surgery being performed and if breast size is a concern, silicone or saline implants can be implemented at a different date.

What Can I Expect After a Breast Lift?

The overall recovery period for a mastopexy is more lengthy than surgery with implants only. After the procedure, you will be fitted with a support bra to help with swelling.  After surgery, the swelling will decrease within about a week. Dr. Jeffrey Caruth or a member of our team will provide specific, at-home incision care instructions to help with your healing process. Aesthetic results after a breast lift surgery are noticeable after a few weeks as the breasts take their higher placement on your chest wall. The goal of this procedure is to give the breasts a more youthful appearance.

Breast Lift FAQ

Will my nipples be moved during a breast lift?
Generally, the nipple-areola complex will be moved up during the breast lift. If your areolas are excessively large or stretched, Dr. Holden can incorporate an areola reduction in your surgery. This may be discussed during your appointment so he can decide on the ideal incision pattern to use during your breast lift.

How long will my breast lift results last?
With good care after surgery, your results should last for several years. Your breasts will continue to age normally, so you could start to see loose and sagging skin in time. Factors such as significant weight gain or loss can alter your results, so it is best to maintain a steady weight following your breast lift. Pregnancy or breastfeeding following a breast lift can also alter your results, which is why Dr. Holden recommends patients wait until they are done having children to get a breast lift.

Can a breast lift fix asymmetry?
A lift may improve asymmetry in your breasts if they're different in size, firmness, or degree of sagging. Dr. Holden will assess the appearance and condition of your breasts in your consultation and talk about how a lift will be able to help you. During your lift surgery, He will shape the tissue so your breasts are equal in position and size for symmetry.
