What is Scar REvision Surgery?
Scar revision involves a number of treatment options to alter and improve the appearance of a scar, such as injectable treatments or shave excision. Surgical scar treatment can improve the way scars look by changing the size, depth, or color. Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Vu Ho, and plastic surgeon Dr. Kristen Ann Aliano Messina minimize scars so that the area is more consistent with the surrounding skin tone. Although no scar can ever be completely erased, today’s scar treatments can result in a significantly less obvious mark. The most important step in the treatment of scars is a consultation with Dr. Ho or Dr. Aliano Messina where they will work closely with you to find the best custom treatment plan to make your scar as smooth and invisible as possible.
"Sarah was thorough, professional and kind. The atmosphere is relaxing and the med spa was spotless."- S.S. / Google / Nov 01, 2019
"Get QWO with Ho - I've been self-conscious about my cellulite for years. When Dr.Ho mentioned a. new treatment to help with my confidence I couldn't resist! I've just done two of the three treatments so far and I already see amazing results. The cellulite is still there but way smoother and less noticeable since when I first started. The injection itself didn't hurt, but tender and a lot of bruising the day after.Would definitely recommend both the QWO and Dr.Ho for these treatments."- J. / RealSelf / May 13, 2021
"I can't recommend Dr. Ho and his staff enough. He is the only person I have trusted to touch my face with injections or fillers. He always keeps you looking natural but just like a better you! I don't want to look like I'm "trying" too hard! I want to look like best version of me for my age. Recently I did a series of 3 Plasma Pen treatments. I am very happy with the results. He says I will continue to see results for a few months as things tighten and the collagen does its work. There was very minimal downtime involved and no pain. Within a few days I could cover the area with makeup and go about my business. All in all I highly recommend this treatment. The first photo is immediately after a treatment and the 2nd is 6 weeks post-treatment."- T.D. / Google / Apr 30, 2021
"Great Experience! Wonderful Results! - It's always a wonderful experience when I visit Dr. Ho's office. His staff is so kind and caring and I never have to wait for an appointment. The Plasma Pen treatments were super easy with very little downtime. Within a few days I was able to cover things up with makeup and go about my business. I had no pain other than some very slight tenderness. I followed through with the 3..."- T. / RealSelf / Apr 29, 2021

Who Is a Good Candidate for Scar REvision?
The best candidates for facial scar revision surgery:
- Have scars as a result of trauma, accident, previous surgery, or cancer
- Have a loss of function, such as nerve damage
- Have extensive cosmetic issues due to the appearance of the scar
- Desire a long-term solution
- Desire a natural look
Scar REvision Surgery technique
Various types of scars call for different techniques. When scars arise from a problem with a previous surgery, the original incision can be reopened and the skin can be moved around to minimize the appearance of the scar. In some cases, the scar can be moved to a different location to make it less visible. With raised scars, dermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing procedures can be used to remove the upper layers of skin to make the scar smoother and more even with the rest of the face. Keloid scars, which are raised, can be surgically removed to improve the appearance. Depending on the type of scar and its condition, our team will use general or local anesthesia. The surgery is considered outpatient where the patient can return home the same day.
What Can I Expect After Scar REvision Surgery?
After surgery, pain, discomfort, redness, swelling, and bruising can be expected. Stitches are usually removed in a week following surgery, if applicable. Strenuous exercises and activities will need to be avoided for the first week or so. In addition, patients should keep their head elevated while sleeping. There will be multiple follow-up appointments so the surgeon can ensure the treatment site is healing properly. It can take up to a full year or more for the scar to fully heal and for the patient to notice full results.
