What's the Difference Between PRP and High Def PRP?
Dr. Vu Ho
2/18/2020
Double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Vu Ho offers the latest aesthetic treatments at Beyond Beautiful to men and women. Some of his most popular therapies include platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and high-density PRP (HD PRP) by SUNEVA® Medical. These solutions are widely known in both the medical and aesthetic industries for their natural regenerative properties. Both use a patient’s own blood supply to gather concentrated forms of essential proteins and minerals to rejuvenate the skin. If you want to refresh your appearance without undergoing a surgical procedure, contact our practice in Prosper, Solano, McKinney, Allen, Richardson, and Plano, TX to book a consultation.
What is plasma?
Our blood is made up of several components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Simply put, plasma is the clear, liquid portion of the blood that remains once these elements are separated. Plasma is the largest part of human blood and consists of water, clotting factors (platelets), antibodies, nutrients, and proteins (albumin and fibrinogen). Plasma is responsible for carrying all parts of the blood throughout the body and helps remove waste.
What is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma is the concentrated form of plasma. When blood is placed into a centrifuge machine, it separates the different components of the blood. This process is called plasmapheresis. It allows Dr. Ho to collect the nutrient-rich plasma.
What is HD PRP?
HD PRP is a highly concentrated form of platelet-rich plasma. It usually consists of roughly five times the normal level of plasma. This highly dense form of PRP provides a greater potency than lower levels of PRP. It also releases more growth factors over time for longer-lasting results.
What is HD PRP good for?
HD PRP is an excellent treatment option for men and women who want to:
- Prompt collagen production for a more youthful and glowing profile
- Diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Boost the overall health of their skin
- Tighten mildly lax skin
How is PRP therapy performed?
When you visit Beyond Beautiful, we’ll have you sit comfortably in one of our private treatment rooms for your PRP treatment. One of your arms will then be gently cleaned with a cotton swab and antiseptic solution. Next, Dr. Ho will extract a small amount of blood with a sterile needle. Your blood will then be placed into a special machine that will spin and separate the different elements of the blood. This process only takes a few minutes. Then, Dr. Ho will draw the concentrated form of platelet-rich plasma and inject it into the target area. The most common treatment areas include the cheeks, jowls, forehead, and areas around the mouth.
Most patients experience little to no pain during treatment and will be free to get back to their usual activities once their procedure is complete.
