Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), or photofacials, target specific damage that has occurred in the skin over periods of time, such as sunspots, pigmented acne scars, broken capillaries, and overall skin redness associated with rosacea. IPL effectively restores overall youthfulness by helping to even out natural skin tones. Offered at the Plano, TX office of double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Vu Ho, IPL uses a range of wavelengths to penetrate the skin. The heat from the Elite MPX™ laser will cause damage to the skin to initiate the skin’s healing process. IPL can be safely performed on the face, neck, hands, and chest. We welcome you in for a complimentary consultation to learn about the procedure, and to find out if you’re a candidate.

Best Candidates for IPL
During a consultation, a medical professional will help determine if IPL is right for you in order to achieve your goals. The ideal candidates for IPL:
- Have sun damage, including sunspots
- Have aged skin with fine lines and wrinkles
- Have redness associated with rosacea
- Have pigmented acne scars
- Desire a non-surgical solution
What to Expect with IPL
In our office, we use the Elite MPX Aesthetic Workstation for IPL treatments. Prior to the treatment, the patient will be given protective eyewear to prevent damage to the eyes from the light source. A cooling gel will be applied to the treatment area, and during the treatment, we will use the handheld device to deliver varying wavelengths to penetrate the skin. During treatment, patients should expect to experience the sensation of a rubber band snapping on the skin. There is no downtime associated with IPL.
IPL Anticipated Results
After IPL treatment, patients can expect to experience mild redness and dark, splotchy areas that usually go away within a few hours. The skin will heal over several days and weeks to result in smoother, younger, and more even-toned skin. For the best results, several treatments are needed, usually 5 – 6. The treatments will be performed every few weeks to provide gradual, long-standing results.
